Gilad Kimchi

Theatre Director

Bio

Born in 1982 in Rishon Lezion, Gilad Kimchi is a director, choreographer and actor. As of January 2018, Kimchi, a graduate of the Beit Zvi School of the Performing Arts, is Resident Director of The Cameri Theatre of Tel-Aviv. Among his works for The Cameri Theatre Of Tel-Aviv: directed and translated “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller (2017); directed “Scenes From A Marriage” by Ingmar Bergman (a co-production with Gesher Theater, 2017); directed and choreographed “The Threepenny Opera” by Bertolt Brecht and Elizabeth Hauptmann (2015); directed and choreographed “Cyrano de Bergerac” by Edmond Rostand (2013). At Beit Lessin Theatre, where he began his career as a director and also led the theater’s Young Troupe, Kimchi directed “Love of Death” by Anat Gov (2017); “The Actress” by Gur Koren (2016); “The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams (2015); “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” by Tennessee Williams (2015); “The Disabled” by Gur Koren (2014); “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” by Simon Stephens (2014) and many more. Kimchi was Resident Director for Beit Lessin Theatre between 2016-2017

Kimchi, a wunderkind in the Israeli performing arts scene, is a recipient of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation Scholarship and Sano Scholarship. Kimchi’s work has been celebrated widely by both critics and audiences, and awarded with many prizes: “The Disabled” won the Israeli Theatre Prize for Best Comedy (2015), “Cyrano de Bergerac” won the Israeli Theatre Prize for Best Director and The Yosef Milo Prize for Best Director (2013), “The Mandrake” (2011) and “Spring Awakening” (2010), both for Beit Lessin Theater, won the Israeli Theatre Prize for Best Choreography.
